CAR CRASH: Former HS Track Star in Medication before PCH Fatal Car Crash
Toxicology tests conducted by Orange County Coroner have found that a former high school track star whose car crashed in Newport Beach Traffic last January had taken prescribed antipsychotic drugs.
Julie Allen, 27, who was among those killed, was speeding east on Coast Highway in the afternoon of January 15 when her Ford Taurus slammed into 10 other vehicles, which left another two dead and three injured. One of the injured was hospitalized because of critical injuries but was expected to recover while the two others were treated for broken bones.
According to the reports of Orange County Coroner’s Office, Allen had taken Olanzopine and Quetiapine, both known for treating bipolar disorder and other mental problems, such as schizophrenia.
National Institutes of Health said that both drugs can cause drowsiness and cautioned users to not drive unless they know how the drugs will affect them.
